Eppur si muove - BEM trainings in BiH

Last week DAUSC held three Better Energy Management trainings in the Una-Sana Canton within New Finance project. Namely, trainings were held in Bihać, Cazin and Ključ. They were organized and held for representatives of public, private and financial sector.

Last week, Development Agency of Una-Sana CAnton (DAUSC), our partner from Bosnia and Herzegovina, held three Better Energy Management trainings in the Una-Sana Canton within New Finance project. Namely, trainings were held in Bihać, Cazin and Ključ. They were organized and held for representatives of public, private and financial sector. Trainings held in Bihać and Cazin were very well attended and attendees were satisfied with presented innovative financial instruments, i.e. energy performance contract and public-private partnership. However, only few representatives of public and private sector from Ključ Municipality attended the training, which was a signal to us that we have to increase promotion of the project and the above-mentioned instruments in order to make them more understandable and attractive.

Despite the fact that these financing initiatives could be a good way for public buildings owners to implement energy efficiency projects which would provide much better working conditions and savings, as well as contribute to environment protection, it is very difficult, practically impossible, for ESCOs to realize EPC projects without the government subsidies.

BEM training is very good way to build capacity and to raise awareness about importance of energy efficiency and to establish a dialogue between private and public sector to work together for the same goal. The first step has been taken.
